Keep doing what you're doing. I try to buy seeds (Autos) that won't take that long, but that's just me. 20 weeks total, for a Photoperiod plant is to be expected.

They pump up the buds as much as they can and then in advanced stages of flower, They die. If you don't remove them, They will die anyway.
