WebDec 10, 2014 · In this probabilistic approach, phonology plays no role: the calculations of contextual probability are at the interface of morphosyntax and semantics, and have consequences on the phonetic implementation, while those of paradigmatic probability stay inside the frame of morphology. WebPhonology refers to the sound system of a language. In general, the basic unit of phonology is the phoneme, which is an individual speech sound (such as /p/) that can often be represented by a single grapheme, or letter (such as the letter p ). There are, however, exceptions, such as the sound /sh/, which is represented by two graphemes ( sh ).
